12/365: Sleeping Queen

She’d helped herself to a prime spot in the wood store, away from the spiders who would devour her given the chance. Hidden away since the autumn, she rests silently awaiting spring. She folded her wings carefully underneath her hind legs. She’d struggle without them in the spring as she has a new nest to build for those eggs she is carrying.

She’s now been evicted and the logs are burning brightly in the stove.
