Building The Forth Road Bridge

After a week of my cabin fever we took a day off for culture, starting with lunch at the Storytelling Centre. Finding that exhibition unavailable we continued to the City Art Centre for the Robert Blomfield Exhibition of street photography.

This is a small part of his massive archive accumulated during his lifetime as a hobby photographer, his interest mainly in ad hoc images, ceasing only after a severe stroke in 1999, which prevented both work and hobby.. The exhibition centred on local people going about their business, mainly in the late 1950's and 1960's, with the occasional exception, for example this photo of the Forth Road Bridge under construction, taken from North Queensferry in 1962. A short video shows Blomfield talking with his brother and his son, who are in the process of digitising the collection. It is a charming exhibition, I imagine every blipper will enjoy.

We followed this with a visit to the Turner exhibition at the National Gallery, I especially enjoyed the opportunity to peer closely at his technique, which seemed much simpler than I expected.

Then it was back down to earth and the mundane activity of grocery shopping.
