An then....

the ants appeared.   It was too windy as I was trying to take this so I cut the flower so I could take it photo on my front terrace where it's more sheltered.  Within 30 seconds there were a multitude of ants ants running everywhere.  Multiply that many ants by the number of flowers on the shrub and that adds up to a very healthy ants nest somewhere closeby.
