Winter Bus Challenge No 159!
Salisbury Cathedral, by night - see extras
A mega Bus Challenge today, with the help of a train as there was no bus running late enough to get me home again! The day in brief(-ish!):
- very early bus into Bath to meet up with BC friend
- long winding bus journey through the Wiltshire countryside to Salisbury
- a tour of Salisbury Charter Market in search of Lardy Cake!
- lunch at Café Rouge
- walking tour of the old town and Cathedral Close
- Cathedral cafe for a cuppa with a view of the cathedral spire, the tallest in the country
- Choral Evensong in the cathedral where the Christmas tree and crib remain in place throughout Epiphany until Candlemas
- a tour of the cathedral’s “From Darkness to Light” illuminated art installations - see extras (https://www.salisburycathedral.org.uk/events/darkness-light-illuminations )
- evening train direct to my local station
First bus journey = 26 mins
Waiting between buses = 31 mins
Second bus journey = 2 hour 37 mins
Train journey = 1 hour 10 mins
Total journey time = 4 hours 44 mins
Was it worth the long journey? Most definitely...
