Sellett Hall Bridge #173
What excitement, I have reached the end of the dry bit of canal.
Starting this afternoon at the Sedgwick Aqueduct #178, through another stranded in a field bridge, Segwick Hill bridge #177(extra), I reached a serious obstacle, the A590 dual carriageway which blocked the canal for about 0.5km and obliterated bridge #176 in the 1970s .
Having found the path on the other side I ended up at the Hincaster Tunnel #175. Here I clambered down with my crutch into the dry canal to take the pic in extras ! I have been here before and facts about how the men literally "legged" it through the tunnel can be read here.
Carrying on, under another bit of the the A590 which has destroyed bridge #174, I ended at the bridge posted. Here is real evidence of restoration; the water you can see through the bridge is in a newly lined bit of canal which is extending the navigable canal by about 0.25 mile. Not a lot but it is progress.
