Tongariro

The Tongariro Crossing - on our descent. What an amazing day. Perfect skies, fairly challenging ascent with a few scary narrow bits. But not as hard as I'd thought it would be. Wobbly knees at the top when you take in the breathtaking landscape. And for me the trickiest part was the intial descent from the summit. Once all that was out of the way and lunch had been had, I was prepared to take my camera out. I now wish I'd taken more photos but at the time I was concentrating more on the job in hand. The volcano had erupted in August for the first time since the 1880s. It has erupted again (since this photo was taken) so a fascinating time for the local experts.
