Hats Off
Our Wedding anniversary is today and we decided to go to the Enduring Eye Photographic exhibition at the Wilson Museum in Cheltenham, which I was alerted to by JDO, thanks Jill.
It is an exhibition of the photos taken by Frank Hurley on Shackleton's expedition to Antarctica in 1914-1917.
The photos tell the incredible story of how the ship became stuck in the ice and the crew finally found their way to Elephant island in the South Atlantic, and were eventually brought to safety with astonishingly, no lives lost.
There is so much of interest in this display that if you get chance to see it, do go.
After lunch we went to investigate the new John Lewis store in Cheltenham and were bit underwhelmed!
I spotted this hat on a bench in the tea room, and rather liked it.
Couldn’t really take photos in the exhibition but extra is a collage of phone photos of the glass plate negatives on display.
The boat the James Caird one of the lifeboats which they used to get to Elephant Island is on display at Dulwich college. We saw it when my niece got married there a few years ago. It’s frighteningly tiny!
