Freedom of excretion
January 2019.
Herring Gull shite on bronze.
An exciting new collaboration on display in the Irish Museum of Modern Art, between Gary Hume (b. 1962) and Gully "the Gull" Doyle (b. last May).
Hume and Doyle explore in a playful manner the interconnection between the durable and the ephemeral, the bronze and the excrement. While Hume's bronze balls exude a quintessential desire for permanence, solidity and durability, Doyle's excrement confront the viewer with the inevitability of the transient, the temporary and the ephemeral.
In a hubristic elan, Hume thrives for immortality.
While Doyle achieves effortless intestinility.
