Sanderson's oak trees
I saw this plaque when I was out helping with the CCF at School today. It commemorates a row of oak trees planted in memory of R B Sanderson, who was killed in the battle of Lys in the first world war. His father was the headmaster of the School and during the war, would read out the names of former pupils who had died in the war - including his own son. The registrar told me about this, and the effect this had on the head masters of the time, reading out the names of their former pupils.
In other (less morbid) news, the youngest has had a day with Granny. The childminder called at 8.30 - the time he is due to be with her (and when I start work), to say her son was not well and the youngest couldn't come. Not the longest conversation and slightly stressful. So I did what, in my world, anyone should do in an emergency. I called my mother, who came to the rescue. I collected one rather tired boy from her this evening, who fell fast asleep on the way home.
