Ruby Wax with a Neuroscientist and a Monk
Tonight book club was at Waterstones for the launch of Ruby Wax's new book, 'How To Be Human, The Manual'.
It's the second time we've seen her now and she was just as funny. Her books all discuss mental health and she draws upon her upon battle with depression and her subsequent Master's degree in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy. The book was written with a little help from a monk, who explains how the mind works, and a neuroscientist who explains what makes us 'us' in the brain. It was all interesting stuff.
The event was a complete sellout so unfortunately I couldn't see her through all the heads.
Ruby Wax also set up the Frazzled Cafe, "not just for the one-in-four of us who will suffer from diagnosed mental illness at some point in our lives; it is for the four-in-four feeling frazzled and overwhelmed by the stresses of modern life."
Quote for today:
You shouldn't run away from your problems, you need to aim straight for the heart of the beast.
