Cat’s eyes
Her fingers are uncooperative. They aren’t shaking (well done!) but they fumble with the keys and it takes an age to unlock the door. She opens the door just enough to slip through and shuts it as soon as she is inside, locking and bolting it behind her. Looking through the door’s glass panes she won’t be able to see anything in the darkness beyond the light cast by the security light.
In the room behind her she will be hearing a creak as the cat jumps off the sofa - they all treat our homecomings as the prelude to food, don’t they? Is that something moving in the darkness? A light? No, two flares of light. Ah! Just a cat’s eyes reflecting the light. Not her cat. It couldn’t be her cat. Her cat is behind her. She can probably hear the scratching sound as he sharpens his claws on the rug.
