Oh dear.

This issue has been rumbling on for some time. Permission has been granted in spite of the objections of the South Downs National Authority (SDNA) and many local groups and individuals.

The Argus reports mind-boggling comments by East Sussex councillors (not local to Seaford, surprise, surprise): - "makes a positive contribution environmentally", the SDNA "need some extra training in planning considerations",

In spite of the picture above, it will not be sited next to the existing incinerator but near the mouth of the river on the east side right next to  the South Downs Conservation area which includes the historic Tide Mills and an SSSI beach. 

12 tonnes of medical waste will be processed every day, brought to site by lorry along an already busy route to the port. Although technically an A road this part of the A26 is narrow, poorly lit and bendy.  Suggestion - do not get into an accident with one of these lorries!

The emissions are said to be "very clean", and the predicted impact of the plant "negligble". (Though it has not been built.)
