'Okay, it's not Stonehenge!'

But it is ours, and not so much a stone circle as a 'ring cairn' according to local historians.

We took a walk out on to Harden Moor this morning with the Three Amigos, through the woodland of Deepcliff and up on to the edge of the Moor.  When we first moved in to the village, in the eighties, it was quite tricky to locate the 'stone circle' but now there is a clear path running up to and by it.  The most recent excavations of the site were in the 1950s when bronze age urns were discovered and a later excavation in the 1980s found an urn containing remains.  About twenty upright stones, none larger than three feet, make up the ring.

I think the Three Amigos were less interested in the history than in beating each other to climb the highest.  Kelso, being the sensible elder, chose to stay low whilst Rowan claimed King of the Castle.

It was a bit too nippy to hang about so we continued across the Moor to the Badger Stones to take in the view and take a couple more blips before heading home via a different route.  A good outing for all before the weather arrives!

The Three Amigos will soon be moving along.  I wonder where their adventures will take them next?
