No.7 Distillers Girls

Just had a lovely evening out with these retrobates! From left to right – Myself, Janice, Fiona, Renee, Linda.

Met these middle aged/old women girls in 1982 when we all worked at the 'Distillers Company' at No. 7 Coates Crescent in Edinburgh.

£90 per week, a 15min break in the morning & afternoon, one and a half hours for lunch (with luncheon vouchers), 2 big bottles each of spirits at Christmas, plus a fully paid for Christmas lunch and a Christmas night out.

The first half hour of every day was spent doing the STAR/SUN crossword (that someone had photocopied for the rest of the office).

I left in August 1982 to take up my first teaching post in Leicestershire which (after 4 years of training) paid less. My parents convinced me that being a teacher had prospects?!  Having a good time in an office did not?!!  They said!

Almost 40 years later.......................... the five of us still agree that our jobs at the 'Distillers Company' were some of the best days of our lives.
