Avalanche

If one of our cats or dog Luna happened to pass here when the snow on the roof came down, they would stand no chance. A human, if not knocked out, would probably have at least an arm or leg free to be able to dig themselves out. But it's really heavy compacted stuff.

The deaths in the Alps continue but almost all due to sheer negligence and ignoring all the very clear warnings to keep to the prepared ski slopes. No, one has to get that adrenalin kick. In one smallish community, I think in Bavaria, a group of four in a very laste afternoon off-piste tour caused an avalanche which buried them but one of the group was able to get out a mobile phone help message. The local voluntary mountain rescue set out in the dark, having to find the site mainly on foot. Then even as they were being dug out, two of the group complained about gthe length of time it had taken to get to them.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the same group the very next day was again spotted skiing off-piste. In a nearby Austrian resort, four Germans with every single modern avalanche aid from airbags to detection beepers were killed by an off-piste avalanche. The rescuers had to give up looking for the fourth body when the danger to themselves became too great.

Sickening and I hope the Insurance companies/authorities make these people pay for the rescue costs due to wilful negligence.
