A Flight of Birds

The idea of collective nouns - a murder of crows, a gaggle of geese - traces back to the 15th century and the English aristocracy's terms of venery: gentlemanly words used during the pursuit of the hunt. Today, well, things have gotten a bit cheeky. (A dropping of pigeons, anyone?)
Here we've collected a mass of nouns that describe forty-eight birds - some fanciful, some "official",some simply to make us giggle. By no means scientific but definitely a lot of fun, this quiz deck easily becomes a game. Guess the word that fills the blank on the front of a card. or make up a new one that's not listed on the back. You really can't lose when you play around in this fun corner of the English language.

Thanks to daughter-in-law S for this gift which I and the grand children will enjoy.
