Big Buddha

A very full and busy day starting with bus and train to get to Tung Chung, the starting point for the cable car which would take us up the mountain to the monastery and Big Buddha. BB is enormous and on top of a mountain - it's modern but certainly has a presence!  We did climb up the steps to get to the top but I thought twice about doing that.  Interesting place with a touch of the 'Disney' thrown in - very touristy, having to walk through the shopping area, many different ways to take money off the tourists, very little feel for any religious purpose. Blip is the Buddha's head taken with a large lens - it is BIG.

Then on to Lantau to see the fishing village on stilts - interesting and so many different preparations of fishy things available - I wouldn't know where to begin using them for cooking.  The last stage in the day was to go by ferry back to Hong Kong island.  BUT..

John thought it would finish off the day by getting the train up to Kowloon to see a market at night and walk the streets.  I admit to being less than enthusiastic as I was tired and would rather have a meal and return to the hotel.  However, we battled our way through the crowds, wandered along Temple Street Market (tat and even more tat) found something to eat and, eventually, arrived back at our hotel after another couple of train journeys.  One trip too many for one day.

Tomorrow may be less intense - maybe!
