Super Wolf Blood Moon

I set my alarm for 4 30am and woke to find perfect conditions to view the eclipse which, at that point was just beginning. I photographed at various points during the event and this was the best of the bunch, taken about 5 05am when the eclipse was complete. Although it’s not as sharp as I would have wanted I was pleased that it is recognisable - all the other shots were very blurry or not quite in the frame.

I used my Canon bridge camera, handheld, with the zoom at full extension - quite a challenge! I only learned afterwards that my shutter speed should have been faster as the moon travels through the sky quite quickly.

It’s nice to think I wasn’t the only daft person in my dressing gown in sub-zero temperatures pointing a camera into the dark sky at the same time. It hasn’t helped my bad head cold, however!
