One of the attractive parts of central Edinburgh is Princes Street Gardens with its verdant lawns, trees, flowers and backdrop of the castle and Royal Mile buildings.   Now the eastern part is a mess.  The aftermath of the removal of the numerous stalls and fairground type attractions have left huge areas of yellow or bare grass.  This happens each January and it takes a lot of effort and expense to reinstate the ground ready for spring.  However there was outrage in October when 52 trees were cut down, apparently to improve access to the National Galleries.  The news article shows the area as it was before and I hope that before long the changes will not have the adverse effect that many fear and it will again be a place to enjoy. The dull afternoon lent itself to a mono effect so it seemed suited to Jensphotos Mono Monday challenge of “Hope”
