Grandmere

We used to tease our Grandmere about her French accent. She laughed and said that she was no longer French - from the moment she married our Grandfather, even her thoughts were in English.

But, as she got older, she began to forget her English words. At the end, she spoke only French - and neither we nor the Polish women who looked after her could understand her.
