Not a lot of people know this ......
.........but, the damage which can be seen on the walls of Whewell's Court, which belongs to Trinity College, Cambridge, was the result of a German air raid on the night of 28th July 1942. Several incendiaries and a high explosive bomb were dropped on theUnion Society building, behind the Round Church. In the raid, 10 buildings were demolished and about 100 others damaged to a lesser degree. Shrapnel from the bomb struck the walls of Whewell's Court, causing damage that can still be seen. I notice this every time I pass by, as years later my dad pointed it out to me.
