Surrender?

In harsh conditions
I’d probably be tempted
to throw up my hands and surrender.

I’d think, ‘I’m getting old.
I’ve served my time.
I deserve to come in from the cold.’

Surely
I could say to surly
Mr Winter ‘You win’

and just give in?
It would make sense to desert my post
if it’s clear I’ve lost?

But who’s to know -
perhaps an inner strength might reveal itself?
I’d like to think so.
