A welcome visitor

A few days ago pennybun blipped a Brambling and I said I had never seen one. Today we had several in the garden.

A member of the Finch family, which you can certainly tell by the beak, they eat seeds in the winter, so no doubt that is what attracts them to gardens. They are actually winter visitors, arriving in huge flocks from breeding grounds in Finland, Scandinavia and Russia.

Not a brilliant picture, as I could only take it though the window, but they are beautiful birds, with gorgeous colouring. I just hope they stay around for when when we do the Garden Birdwatch this weekend - we have not been able to do it for a few years, as we have been away, so looking forward to taking part this year.
