Today MOH and I decided to visit Newton Dee for lunch en route to Banchory, one of our favourite places to visit. We didn't get any further.
Newton Dee is a Camphill Community in Aberdeen for adults with learning disabilities and it is a very special place. We had a walk around the grounds, visited three of the workshops, which are open to the public, had lunch in the cafe, and met many lovely people, both residents and staff.
200 people live and work within Newton Dee around half of whom have special needs, the others mainly co-workers and their families.
Newton Dee life is based around 36 households of 4 to 16 people, shared houses, apartments, and bed-sits, all based within wooded areas. The grounds extend to 180 acres in total 120 of which are dedicated to biodynamic farming.
The picture shows the cafe and shop complex.
If you find yourself in Aberdeen in need of some food or somewhere to pass away a few hours do yourselves a favour and pay Newton Dee a visit. We were there for three hours.
