Early Morning Shadows

Since the mountains are usually shrouded in the early mornings I was surprised to see how the shadows are already darkening the valleys. It’s a month after the longest day, but I don’t like to be reminded that winter’s on its way. Winter seemed far away today. Those clouds behind the mountains promise a warm nor’wester, and the burning sunshine threatened a very hot day. The temperature quickly rose to 28ºC, but then the wind changed to something a bit cooler, which was a relief.

The mountains look very plain without snow. Winter has advantages.
