Spanish City

After dropping Ella off to get ready for her show at the Playhouse in Whitley Bay, #3 daughter, Mr C and I braved the icy blasts to battle our way down to Spanish City. This iconic Whitley Bay building, mentioned by Dire Straits on I think Tunnel of Love, has had a reincarnation. It now houses a restaurant, and champagne bar. We had a coffee overlooking the raging North Sea, and were happy to see the place busy. A trad jazz group were playing in the atrium, now a restaurant. (Shame it smelled of fish and chips though). It was great to see so many there and hopefully in the summer it will be even busier.

We went to Ella’s show. Even Mr C, a ballet fan, was quite impressed. I loved how all ages got a bit to do in Nutcracker. Some of the older girls were really good. In fact former pupils are now professionals. Ella was no longer in the little tots group, one of whom had to be rescued as she burst into tears. Ella has now grown into the second youngest group, who had great fun. She really enjoyed it all, especiall6 when the younger ones were positioned at the side so that she could watch the “proper” dancing. She really concentrated to seeing what they were doing, but on the way home said it looked very hard. It would be nice if she carried on while she enjoys it - her mum gave it up when she became a bag of nerves.
