sorry - no good origin story.   Blip already had a Gordon, so I opted for Gordo, a nickname used by a lifelong friend.  

Looking critically, as Tuppence does at me frequently, Wikipedia tells me famous Gordo's include:

After that it goes in to a bit of a decline .....
