58 Years Ago Today..............

............ Wee maw and Paw were married in the village of Coalburn by a newly arrived Church of Scotland minister carrying out his first ever marriage.

But just as the the Queen has two birthdays, maybe Wee Maw and Paw should have two wedding anniversaries. Let me explain....

A few days after the confetti had blown away and the happy couple had headed off down south on honeymoon, my mum's bridesmaid, her sister, Auntie Janet, was scratching her head. 

Something wasn't right, they'd missed something and she couldn't quite put her finger on it....... then it dawned on her.

The register!

In all the excitement of the wedding day and with a new minister in charge, nobody had signed the marriage register!!!

In the days when phones were a luxury and mobiles were a work of science fiction there was no way to contact the newlyweds, so when they duly arrived back a week or so later Auntie Janet was sitting on the doorstep waiting. 

With hardly a moment to drop off their case, she promptly marched them right up to the manse to get everything sorted once and for all.
