Green Monday

A number of us went to Green Monday at the Preston New Road Fracking site today to listen to the speaker, Krista Cowman. Kirsta is a Professor of History at Lincoln University and specialises in the history of modern women's political activism. She has worked as historic advisor on the film 'Suffragette' and on a recent BBC drama commentary  - Suffragettes. 

Many people think that it was the war that helped women to get the vote, but Kirsta said that this was not the case. After the war only women over 30 were given the vote, yet the women who helped during the war were mostly under the age of 30.  It was the Suffragettes who won the rights for women.
