Snow

I was talking to a colleague in Ottawa this afternoon. It’s cold here, I complained, and we’re supposed to get snow later. ‘Here too’ she said, ‘it was -34 when I woke up and we have 4 feet of snow.’ I shut up pretty quickly.

My colleague Rod is staying over. I gave him the Birthday Boys to read. I’ve started on John Hunt’s The Ascent of Everest. In 1953 my grandparents gave my father, then aged 19, a hard copy. Last year I passed that on to my son for his 21st birthday. Tonight Rod and I watched a documentary about Shackleton just to keep going on the snow and ice theme.
