Westward ho

Afternoon light looking to the west out towards Morecambe Bay.

Overnight we had our 1cm. of snow and after breakfast Mrs. K. dutifully swept the driveway. She would have swept the road too but guessed that it might clear itself during the morning, which indeed it did. We are now snow free.

Not so 70 miles to the south where greater Manchester was, by English standards, badly hit. The airport was closed, traffic was in complete gridlock. And the Primary school attended by my grandsons was closed.

Its odd that when I was their age 75 years ago I cannot remember school being closed even in the infamous 1947 winter. Teachers lived closer to the school and neither teachers or children went to school by car. Tramping through a foot of snow was fun. And there was no way our parents could stay off work to look after us.
