Burton Aqueduct to Tewitfield
Glorious weather, no snow to speak of on the towpath. I passed under 6 bridges, past 2 culverts and found 8 old disused locks. The only locks on the 57 miles of canal between Kendal and Preston. They raised the canal 75 feet in half a mile. The gates have gone, the locks are now waterfalls. This is a frozen section of canal between locks. I ended up at Tewitfield Marina and #138 Tewitfield Old Turnpike Bridge, 15 miles from Kendal and the most northerly section of the canal that is linked to the rest of the navigable canal network. In theory I can now get to Birmingham by boat (see yesterday) . Extra of one of the old locks
