Avon Viaduct (1841)
In the rising temperatures (a balmy 4°C), we took a walk along the frozen canal from Linlithgow to Bridge49 crossing the impressive Avon Aqueduct (1821). With a dog, we were only permitted to eat in one the bistro's outdoor 'pods' which made things a little different.
The return journey was along the River Avon, and we passed under the railway viaduct as we reached Linlithgow. There were still some vestiges of ice lining the river banks, from a colder time.
It must have been disheartening to the navvies who slaved to build the canal aqueduct, only to see it replaced by the railway twenty years later.
