Legerdemain
For years he's been probably my favourite painter, so when Tate Liverpool organised a major retrospective I was determined to see it. In Manchester for a couple of days to decorate the spare bedroom with the help of son Huw, I persuaded him (and myself) that we could take a few hours off. The exhibition is terrific, bringing together many of his finest works and a few surprises, and all very nicely presented. It's on until mid March and I recommend it. My only criticism is that there is no catalogue.
