Day 3 Egret

This egret was eyeing me up as I was walking down what is commonly known as Cardiac Brae. I'm not sure if it is called that because it gives you a good Cardio-vascular work out or because it is a common site for heart attacks. Anyway I made it ok! The extra is the same egret disappearing over the wall having decided I was not his cup of tea after all. Please note his particularly appealing trailing black legs!
I got the bus into town Thiruvananthapuram (or Trivandrum) today, it cost 18 rupees, which is about 20p as opposed to upwards of £5 for an auto. The bus is much more fun. They don't have glass in the bus windows here as they want as much air blowing through as possible!
I went to Pothy's, an upmarket department store selling mainly clothes. There is a branch in Tirunelveli too. I bought myself a wrap around skirt which will no doubt feature in a picture later on in my trip. I also got some bits and pieces to take into school.
I got back to Kovalam at about 2pm and spent the next few hours swimming in the pool and the sea, lovely. Hard to believe I've been here just over 24hours, I've settled back in very quickly.
I went out for a walk later, then for a wee pot of masala tea in the Lonely Planet restaurant which is by a little pool. I was watching a kingfisher - as one does - when I was distracted by a woodpecker flying past and landing on a dead palm tree nearby. I sat and watched it and enjoyed its drumming on the hollow trunk for about 20 minutes but it was too far away for my phone to get a good picture. It looked similar to our greater spotted variety, with a lovely red head but I think it is a white bellied one. I'll be able to check next week when I get my Salim Ali book back.
Dinner tonight was prawns grilled with lemon and some coconut rice. Delicious.
I've got my phone sorted with an Indian s sim now, so I'm all good to go.
15,016 steps today which I'm pleased about.
