Bridge to Nowhere
Two bridges span the river Avon at Morgan Glen, Larkhall
The road bridge and the mighty Larkhall Viaduct,175ft above the river.
The highest railway bridge in Scotland and one of the longest at 285yds
Construction started in 1898, the bridge opened in 1904 and closed in 1965 when the Larkhall, Stonehouse and Coalburn line was axed under the Beeching cuts.
The railway returned to Larkhall in 2005 but before that Stonehouse Viaduct had been demolished rendering the Larkhall Viaduct a bridge to nowhere.
