Sassongher and Sas Ciampac from Col Alt, Pralongia

Another exceptional day in the Dolomites on the Pralongia plateau. Took the cable car from Corvara to Col Alt and walked to Pralongia Refugio along a mixture of groomed trails and deep virgin snow.

Pralongia is a high plateau between 6000 and 7000 feet between the Campolongo and Valparola valleys surround by peaks serried ranks of preposterous peaks in all directions.

It was an arduous day, covering over 7 miles quite a few of which were forging a trail through deep snow. Easier for those at the back although we did rotate pioneering the trail.

Brilliant blue skies again with a little wind which made conditions at the top a little chilly. The area was much busier than where we were yesterday - loads of different ski runs cris crossed our route, so there was not the feeling of isolation and tranquility we had yesterday.

Another very pleasant evening, lots of wine and great conversation. More of the same tomorrow.
