The two of us in Alohaland

A selfie moment - oh well, why not occasionally? - after a lovely walk along the beach in the sun.
We had a brush with reality this morning when we decided to walk up Makapu'u to see if we could see some whales, not thinking that it would be a tourist hot spot at this time of year. But sadly, even in Alohaland there has been an explosion of tourism. The islands see more than 9 million visitors each year, with Oahu receiving the grand majority. So not only were there loads of people heading up the path, we couldn't even find a parking spot. The car park was completely full. My patience for waiting for a place to park and then walking on a crowded path is limited to say the least, so we turned around and drove home.
The sun was out and we were ready for a walk, so we chose to wander along our semi-deserted beach. But another minor blow, our walk was curtailed because a scene from Magnum P.I. was being filmed, requiring a "secluded beach", so people were being asked not to go near the filming. We walked in the other direction and found a huge log to sit on and gaze out at the shifting colours of the water.
Then, after lunch music, yoga, work, dinner, and that was our day, the two of us in Alohaland.
