mcilwraith croquet club...

...and what a glorious building!
On our little trips around Brisbane accompanying granddaughter M to her day time swimming and other activities we stumble across some remarkable buildings.

This lovely old weatherboard was established in 1923 on land bequeathed by Lady Harriette McIlwraith and was a women's only club until 1946.
The original clubhouse was destroyed in the 1974 flood when water levels submerged the building to the gable peak...that is a LOT of water...and rebuilt and reflooded since then (the Brisbane River is not that far away).
Still it continues and quintessentially Queensland.
