Fums Up
I’ve had this little charm for years and didn’t really know much about it. I just liked him because he looked a little bit gruesome!
I found out today that he is a good luck charm from WW1. His head is made of wood and his arms move to allow his thumbs to touch his head, “touch wood”. He has tiny winged feet too. He was sent to soldiers from sweethearts as a good luck charm.
“Behold in me the birth of luck,
Two charms combined TOUCH WOOD-FUMSUP,
My head is made of wood most rare,
My thumbs turn up to touch me there,
To speed my feet they’ve Cupid’s wings,
They’ll help true love ‘mongst other things,
Proverbial is my power to bring,
Good luck to you in everything,
I’ll bring good luck to all away,
Just send me to a friend today.
