HoHoHo

This is the world's oldest Christmas card.

A civil servant by the name of (Sir) Henry Cole commissioned an illustrator, in 1843 London, to paint a triptych Christmas card with each side panel depicting a good deed: the clothing of the poor, and the feeding of the hungry, and the centre one celebrating the conviviality of the season.

When it was first commissioned only a handful were sold. Today's photo shows our modern day cards, and an estimated 700 million of them will be sent this year in the UK alone.
