Music music music ...
I am on a lonely road and I am traveling
Looking for the key to set me free
We got home too late and too blown away by the film we had just seen to write an entry last night. “Joni at 75”, a music celebration of Joni Mitchell, with amazing performances by Norah Jones, Los Lobos, Diana Krall, Rufus Wainwright, Seal, Brandi Carlile, Kris Kristofferson, and more. There was so much love and respect among the performers for this amazingly gifted woman, who I imagine may have spent a lot of her life on a lonely road searching for that elusive key to the doorway of freedom and happiness. Her searching has brought us some of the most beautiful music and lyrics one could hope to hear.
Such a lovely evening all round with Tiziano, Laurie, Ron and Carol, starting off with a ride in the magic bus, Ron and Laurie’s ‘70s combi van complete with colourful tie-dyed curtains and jingly-jangles hanging here and there. Dinner at the Olive Tree, excellent Greek food (where a plan was laid to meet up for a holiday some time on a Greek island) and then the film. A real blast!
I'm light years away from finding that key to freedom for my own life. As Tom wrote in his blog yesterday "Ignorance is not a state that we find ourselves in, but an inability to recognize our wholeness". So true, I guess that is the key for me.
In the meantime, I'm loving the fact that music is an important part of our time here in Alohaland. My ukulele and singing lessons with Maestro Tiziano continue on a daily basis. Tonight we're going to a concert by a Hawaiian musician called Tavana and tomorrow Laurie is coming over for our Learning Tree session.
And just to keep a kind of daily tone to my entries, today I walked on the beach, first in the early morning and then with Tiziano. We made a fabulous salad for lunch with kale, grated carrot and avocado ... much more delicious than it sounds. And we fitted in a trip to the Y where I swam my lengths with great pleasure, oh and I did a couple of hours' work this morning.
I'm feeling super invigorated!
