Lichfield cathedral

Visiting Lichfield for the first time with a friend.

I’m feeling very educated after a visit to Erasmus Darwin’s (grandfather of Charles) house and the first home of Samuel Johnson, who was born and grew up in Lichfield before moving to London.

We also went on a tour of the cathedral which was a place of pilgrimage to see the relics of St Chad. I enjoyed hearing about the three sieges of the cathedral during the English Civil War. The building was badly damaged but survived to be restored.

It’s been sunny today but pretty cold. Tonight we are exploring Lichfield’s best pubs!
