Sculpted head
Having spent a day at home yesterday with a very bad cold, I felt a lot better today and we decided to take a trip to Rochester.
There was a new exhibition in the crypt of Rochester Cathedral showcasing the history of the cathedral through stones, sculptures and artefacts uncovered during the recent renovations.
My blip is of a Gothic sculpted head, known as a corbel or label stop. It is thought to represent a patron of mediaeval building campaigns. It was just one of many found in the quire which was constructed after a fire in 1179.
We were looking forward to lunch in our favourite Thai restaurant . So when we arrived at its entrance to find it was closed from January 1st to February 11th, we were very disappointed.
There are numerous restaurants and cafes in Rochester but we decided to try an independent Neopolitan restaurant and after having a home made ravioli (me) and pizza (Ian) considered it a good choice.
My extra is a photo of a painting in an exhibition we visited, entitled "Feels Like Forever Ago".
It is a joint collaboration by Daisy Parris and Laurie Vincent. Daisy is a full time artist and Laurie is one half of punk duo Slaves.
Both blips are my contribution to Admirer's Silly Saturday Challenge. In fact there were many things in Rochester today that would have qualified for the challenge and I was spoiled fir choice. Thanks to Admirer for hosting this fun challenge.
