From the sublime to the shaming

St David's Hall, Cardiff, was packed for a 75th birthday concert with Sir Karl Jenkins, including his work The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace. It was sublime; the Cor Caerdydd , Sinfonia Cymru and soloists all terrific. That, in addition to the two hymns at yesterday's wedding, Calon Lan and Can Rhondda, would be among the eight records on my Desert Island.
We disgorged onto the streets of central Cardiff to come face to face with people whose "homes" appear to be tents. We understand that there are food kitchens so the people here who live on the street are unlikely to starve, and the tents have been donated to mitigate the effects of the weather, but numbers are increasing and there is no sign of a joined-up approach. Perhaps there is truth in: "The poor will always be with US."
