The drive at Atcombe, Woodchester

I spent the day with a small group of friends, some of whom have been meeting up with Maggie since the early 1990s. We gather at Maggie's home to get the benefit of sharing our life stories with each other and hearing what our dreams are.

Maggie has a workspace in a converted barn of an old Cotswold manor house, which she lives next door to. As I walked out of there to go to her house for lunch I liked this late winter light looking down the drive with silver birch trees. In the background are big beech trees and a small lake nearby just the right of the drive.

If you were to go to the bottom of the drive, crossed the river and climbed up the far hillside you could find a recently established vineyard. Oh how the Cotswold have changed, or not. The local village of Woodchester is famous for being the site of one of the most prestigious Roman villas in England, where a large mosaic was discovered. I'm sure there would have been vineyards such a Roman domain.
