In Memoriam

Our building came with very few memorials There are the two windows and a placque to the first minister of the Parish. His arrival coincided with the completion of the building. The history of religion in this area is at least 1100 years.

This memorial was originally fixed behind the pulpit and could only be seen by a small number of the congregation. It was also at a highly inconvenient height for us as we planned a new floor at this level.

We carefully removed it. It weighs about 300 lbs and remounted it in what we are pleased to call the "Clergy" or cloakroom.

More people now know more about the Rev. David Thomson than before.

One interesting fact is he presided over the service for the laying of the foundation stone of the original Tay Rail Bridge. He was still preaching when the Bridge collapsed. Not many people know that.

He is buried in the chancel of the first church building which was severely damaged in a storm, beside Mrs Thomson and the Headmaster of the school.
