Busy nesting
We always like to visit the Yorkshire Sculpture Park at this time of year, mainly to see the Heronry situated on the islands in the Upper Lake, and Lower Lake.
There is a small hide by the lower lake, and today we had it to ourselves.
I took today’s blip from there.
So peaceful, except for the singing of the little robin which joined us in the hide.
However this year there were more herons nesting on the other island in the top lake, but you can’t get as near to that one.
There is a lovely walk through the woods, which are a wildlife reserve.
Today they were full of snowdrops. ( see first extra ). Soon to be followed by the daffodils. and then bluebells.
After a walk round the rest of the park looking at some of the new sculptures.
Second extra ...... Wall Dale Cubed. by Sean Scully. Not one we could understand. Beautiful stone would have been better building a proper wall somewhere. But that’s only our opinion.
Third extra.
12 Zodiac Heads, by Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei.
Now these we loved.
Fourth extra.
One we both enjoy.
Permanent set of sculptures by Barbara Hepworth, entitled Family of Man.
Fifth Extra.
Another permanent sculpture.
This time by Henry Moore.
Don’t miss the camellia house at this time of year.
6th extra.
We finished of with a late lunch in the cafe.
A delicious Frittata for me with salad, and sauté potatoes.
Mr C had soup. This time mushroom, lentil and tarragon, which he also enjoyed.
Certainly an excellent cafe.
So we made the most of a mild and partly sunny February day.
If you haven’t been there yet it is well worth a visit.
Just a warning. The Park and Exhibitions are free, but you pay for parking.
Two hours £6. All day, £11.
Still worth it for a day out for 2 - 4 people.
It must cost a lot to run the place.
There are plans to turn the Hall into a Hotel.
Many thanks to Cailleach for hosting Wild Wednesday, for 150 times.
