Skylarks singing and a Curlew called

A lovely sunny day and in between chatterbox walkers and inbound aircraft for Manchester International there were times of near silence on Cown Edge.

The first suprise was a Curlew calling in the distance.

The next (when walking the edge) was not one but five Skylarks rising up from the grasses to sing - warming up their Spring voices. I snapped 2 Skylarks (extra photo).

The main photo (towards Kinder Scout)  is one I often take but perhaps not as well framed and as focused as this before. Nice light and not being blown over by the wind (more  the norm on Cown Edge) made the difference.
