Capillary Thread-moss

One of the commonest mosses in the UK growing in a variety of habitats including base-rich to slightly acidic soils, grasslands, woodland rides,
soil banks, waste ground, trees, logs, fences, walls, roofs and rocks. Nevertheless, it has particularly elegant sporophytes, which remind me of an Art Nouveau desk lamp.

I had a very gently stroll round Old Sulehay Quarry and Ring Haw this afternoon, in balmy spring sunshine. Having got rid off last week's chesty lurgy, I seem to have managed to catch a head cold at the weekend, and am at the sneezing and snuffling stage, but otherwise don't feel too bad. It was just wonderful to be out and enjoy snowdrops, hazel catkins, stinking hellebore flowers (see extra) and all manner of mosses and lichens.
